There’s no doubt that wood floors look incredible and can really elevate the decor in a home, but they do require some specialist maintenance to ensure they look their best. Although regular sweeping is simple enough, other tasks can be a little more complex.
A recent article for MSN provided some advice on how best to clean and care for wood flooring.
For a start, you should be cleaning your wood floors every day. This doesn’t need to be a deep clean, but a sweep with a soft-bristled brush each day will help keep the dust away. You can also carry out this kind of clean with a microfibre cloth or dust mop. However you decide to clean your floors, make sure you’re using gentle tools to prevent scratches.
Once a month, you should be giving your wood floors a deep clean, according to the news provider. You can buy specialist wood floor cleaner or make your own with some gentle dishwashing liquid and water.
Put a light coating of your cleaner on the floor and mop it up immediately, again with a soft cloth. Finally, it’s recommended that you refinish your wooden floors every five years. Don’t worry though, you don’t have to do this yourself if you don’t want to. We can give you help with wooden floor polishing in Newcastle to make it easier.
MSN offered some general tips for cleaning wooden flooring. These included not using too much water as this can stain and damage the wood. Similarly, vinegar isn’t a great option because it can damage some finishes on wood floors.
Earlier this year, an article for Ideal Home noted that wood flooring is one of the most sustainable flooring options available, especially if you choose a wood that’s readily available in the UK like oak or pine.
